New KSM Briefer: Should we gamble salmon for gold?

Rivers Without Borders has produced a new briefer about the proposed KSM gold – copper mine targeting headwaters of the Unuk River near Misty Fjords National Monument.  It focuses on the extraordinary amount of waste KSM would generate if the project goes forward. Obviously the metal the mine produces – principally gold for many years to come – would be very valuable, but because it’s very low grade, the waste side of the equation is mind boggling.  Another reason to question if this type of mining is appropriate in the salmon and biodiversity rich southern transboundary region?
